Allow users to supply a template for actionscript / mxml classes so they can add a legal statement / comment block at the top for example.

If FlexBuilder supported code and comment Templates the way the Eclipse Java editor does, that would be idea.

templates would work but snippets (ala cfecplise ) would even be better!

Agreed. Templating and snippets are a real gain for any development team, and is one of the only remaining key features that separates Flex Builder and FDT.

It would be nice to have directives like ${className}, ${package}, etc. This way they could be selected when you create a new file.

I see this as a crucial feature and can't figure out why it was removed.

Flexbuilder 1.5 had it.

Flexbuilder 1.5 came with a ~$15K price tag though.

I have wasted at least 6 hours trying to find workarounds to get this functionality for flex development.

Please bring this feature back. It really makes quite a difference for people who work with frameworks like PureMVC. As already mentioned, it's one of the few things giving FDT the edge over Flex Builder.

Code templates are really needed. <I hate the opening curly brace to be placed on the next line>
